ROB GUZZO MEMORIAL 8K RUN/5K WALK & BENEFIT CONCERT – Manteo – Saturday July 6th – 8K/5K race in the morning followed by a Benefit Concert and dinner at Pirate’s Cove Marina to benefit fallen Navy SEAL Rob Guzzo and the Silver Strand Foundation.  Out and back course through the historic town of Manteo on Roanoke Island. All participants will receive a unique race t-shirt and post-race refreshments.
The Silver Strand Foundation will also be holding a Benefit Concert and Dinner after the 8k/5k event from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at The Pavilion at Pirate’s Cove Marina.

2nd ANNUAL TOWNEBANK RED NOSE WINE FESTIVAL – Manteo – Thursday July 11th – Red Nose Wine Festival on Thursday, July 11, 2013. This event will be held on the beautiful waterfront of Marshes’ Light in Manteo. Fabulous wines from around the world and produced by North Carolina Wineries will be available for tasting as well as foods from the Outer Banks finest restaurants …and NEW this year, Craft beers and North Carolina Breweries!  Live entertainment will be provided by local and regional bands! This is an Outer Banks Relief Foundation Charity Event, and is one of the many fundraisers held by the Foundation as it fills its mission to serve our community whose mission is simple: to financially assist those in our community who are faced with debilitating illness or tragedy. Net funds will be expended to help those on the Outer Banks.

INAUGURAL RUNNING OF THE VILLAGE AT NAGS HEAD 5K SERIES PRESENTED BY VILLAGE REALTY – Nags Head – Kick off your flip flops, lace up your running shoes and join us for this family fun event sponsored by Village Realty OBX. Enjoy the fun of a run and add fitness to your vacation at our Summer morning 5k through the Village of Nags Head. Start and finish at the Outer Banks Mall 14.5 in Nags Head. FRISCO NATIVE AMERICAN MUSEUM & NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM CENTER will be offering a number of special programs for children and families this summer. Explores’ Fossil Pile hold wonders from the Aurora Fossil pits. Find sharks teeth, shells and other fossils dating back millions of years. Beginning Archeology, Birding for FUN and much, much more!

GRAVEYARD OF THE ATLANTIC MUSEUM – Hatteras – Enjoy a fascinating visual story filled with mystery, history and true treasure perfect for visitors of all ages. ROANOKE ISLAND FESTIVAL PARK – Manteo – All Month – Bring the family and enjoy this interactive look into the Outer Banks’ fascinating past.  Board the Elizabeth II and learn firsthand how sailors lived in the 1500s. Throughout the park watch costumed interpreters give you a personal look at what life was like for the first English settlers.  Don’t miss this wonderful way to experience a different side of the Outer Banks.

OCRACOKE ISLAND – Don’t miss this wonderful part of the Outer Banks. Take the free ferry from Hatteras and explore the winding streets that Blackbeard loved to walk.  Stop into Teach’s Hole Blackbeard Exhibit to learn more about one of the most famous pirates.  The British Cemetery and the Ocracoke Preservation Society will help you to understand how important this lovely little island really has been to American history.

ELIZABETHAN GARDENS – Roanoke Island – Fanciful and elaborate gardens were kept to entertain Queen Elizabeth I during her reign. Our garden was created for your enjoyment, and as a living memorial to the time when Sir Walter Raleigh’s lost colonists lived in this very place over 400 years ago.  Don’t miss the family-friendly events, workshops and classes including Minty Monday, Storybook Tuesday, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Tea with the Queen, and Fragrant Fridays.

NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGES – Throughout the month there is a huge variety of activities for the whole family at Alligator River and Pea Island Refuges. Wolves and Birds and Bears – Oh My! Don’t miss the Famous Red Wolf Howling – learn more about red wolves at the only place in the world where they still exist in the wild! Get a chance to hear the harmonious howl of this endangered species. Day or Night there is something for everyone and a number of the activities are FREE.

PAINT A MUSTANG – Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00-1:00- Corolla – Bring your imagination and prepare to get messy! This activity is fun for all ages. We provide the paint, brushes, smocks and wooden horse cutouts for you to paint any way you like. Take home a memento of your vacation that also reflects your contribution to a great cause.

JENNETTE’S PIER – All Month – Nags Head – From Surf Fishing Workshops to Science Behind the Scenes and much more your family will have so much fun any day of the week at Jeanette’s Pier.

WHALEHEAD CLUB & CURRITUCK HERITAGE PARK – Situated on 39 acres of pristine water front property, Currituck Heritage Park has much to offer all visitors. Located inside the park are Whalehead Historic House Museum and Restored Boathouse, the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education, and the Currituck Beach Lighthouse. Stroll back in time as you visit this stunning 1920’s mansion, learn about local wildlife and visit one of the Outer Banks famous lighthouses.

CAPE HATTERAS NATIONAL SEASHORE – Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands – Home of the world famous Hatteras Lighthouse!  Throughout the month of July the National Park Service presents a fantastic variety of fun family activities – Soundside Seining, Sea Turtles for Kids, and Pirates to name a few.  Don’t miss out on this fun!!!

JOCKEY’S RIDGE STATE PARK – All Month – Nags Head – Jockey’s Ridge has some of the best family activities available. From exploring the ecosystem to hiking the dunes there is something for everyone!

WHALEHEAD CLUB SUMMER CONCERT SERIES – Corolla – Every Tuesday evening from 6 PM to 8- July 9th - August 27th – Relax on the South Lawn on your blanket or chair and watch the sunset over the Currituck Sound as you listen to great local talent! No alcohol is permitted to be brought into the park, but not to worry! Whalehead will be selling glasses and bottles of wine as well as beer to quench your thirst. Frozen treats from Honey’s Ice Cream and Rita’s Italian Ice will be available as well. Pets on leashes are welcome, and admission and parking are free.

SKY BLUE SUMMER CONCERT SERIES – Hatteras Island – a Summer long series of waterfront, LIVE music performances in Cape Hatteras. These shows are hosted on the waterfront deck at the REAL Flagship Store in the Village of Waves. Dinner and drinks are available at all shows from Watermen’s Bar & Grill. Family Friendly Atmosphere! All shows are FREE Admission, 6pm – 10pm, unless otherwise noted.  Friday, July 5th 6:00pm – Frozen Head & the Squirrels; Saturday, July 6th 12:00pm – The Wilders; Monday, July 8th 6:00pm – Jack Jr.; Thursday, July 11th 6:00pm – Mojo Collins.

ACOUSTIC SUNSETS – Thursdays 5:00 – 9:00 pm – Sanctuary Vineyards – Jarvisburg – Acoustic Sunset is Sanctuary Vineyards’ FREE summer concert series. It starts May 23 and continues every Thursday evening until late September. This has become a summer tradition for us and the growing group of friends that fill the lawn every Thursday for music, wine and fun.

LIVE MUSIC NIGHTLY – Fish Heads Bar & Grill – Outer Banks Fishing Pier – Nags Head – Great place for family fun and fantastic food! Every evening promises fun, live entertainment (weather permitting).

DUCK “UNPLUGGED” – Duck – A five-week long singer/songwriter series, returns for the 2013 season. The concerts will be on Tuesday evenings from July 2 through July 30 beginning at 6:30 p.m., and will be held in the Duck Amphitheater. Gates are set to open at 6:00 p.m. The current schedule of performances is (subject to change): Rebekah Todd; Tuesday, July 9 – Chez Says; Tuesday, July 16 – Travas Hunter; Tuesday, July 23 – Barefoot Wade; Tuesday, July 30 – Zen Monkeys; Tuesday, August 6 – Joe Mapp & The Coordinates.

WHALEHEAD WINE FESTIVAL – Wednesdays – local, national, and international wines in a beautiful setting. Admission to the wine festival is free for non-drinking adults and children. Bring the entire family to enjoy local talent every week! Sip wine and watch the glorious sunset over the Currituck Sound. There will be fun kite activities for children and pets on a leash are welcome. Parking is free!

WINE TASTING – Every Day – 2:00 – 4:00 pm – Corolla – Bacchus Wine and Cheese in the Monteray Plaza Come enjoy 6 different wines. Tuesday Night Wine Tasting Events include 6 different wines served with hot and cold appetizers and sumptuous desserts! Learn how to properly taste wines, expand your knowledge of varietals, and enjoy a wide selection of gourmet foods.

DUCK SUMMER MUSIC SERIES – Duck – This popular evening concert series features some of the area’s best known musical acts.
